Sereg’s Silver Hand
At some point during the Age of Swords and Tears, a goddess found herself a bit left out of the situation that was occurring throughout the world. Wars were being fought for territory as the humans expanded like a plague of locusts bringing with them a type of shadow that intrigued this young goddess Sereg. She had always been one for sticky fingers and quick to draw a blade to place squarely between her opponent’s shoulder blades without knowing she was there.
Being of a natural tempestuous nature, Sereg felt left out from the prayers of those who were working in the shadows during the Great Wars that raged across Solabren as humans fought against the elves. The thieves, assassins and spies would not beg her blessing to assist them in their missions or everyday tasks. This irritated and put her off from the humans that intrigued her so. Instead of being her normal vindictive self, Sereg took things into her own hands by taking an avatar body to live among those humans that have become her playthings.
Wherever there was plenty and wealth, she found that there were thieves. Wherever their was greed and envy she found cutthroats and assassins for hire. Wherever there was a secret to be discovered, she found that the shadowy field of espionage was something she could patron. With this, she began spreading the word throughout cities, villiages and towns that there was a greater more successful thief, assassin or spy that could take on the very best and that if someone could best her she had a place for them by her side. This is how the Guild of the Silver Hand was started.
Though there were very few in the beginning who could best Sereg at her own game, she still found several that were worthy to become priests and priestesses of her own private cult and this pleased her greatly. As she filled the ranks of those that believed in her, she opened her guild to those who were of the ilk of thieves, assassins and spies. Many did not truly believe but that was fine by her, for the time being.
As time went on, Sereg grew tired of her mortal form and made her intentions of returning to the home of the gods known to her priests and priestesses. She gave her final instructions. From the time of her departure until the time of her return all those who join the guild must give themselves wholly to her. Those who are of other gods will be ineligible until they swear themselves to her in mind, body and spirit. When they do this, they will be granted entrance into the guild and the ability to call the shadows in which to make their work easier. Once a generation, a worthy member would be chosen to enter the Gauntlet: a series of trials to prove their worth and their skill as a thief, assassin or spy.
Out of Character Note: Any member can apply via private message to one of the staff to have a private dice roll done to see if they qualify for the priesthood.
- A d20 roll of ten (10) or higher is required to start the Gauntlet.
- Gauntlet events are dependent upon your character’s class, i.e. if a player’s character is a thief, then that character will go through the thief oriented Gauntlet and so on.
- Upon successfully completing the Gauntlet, the player must choose a city or location from the map in which to start his or her own branch of the guild. The player character ultimately becomes a guild leader for that particular branch.
- Any player may join the Silver Hand.
